A Little Bit of Inspiration for Next Year

Admit it. You didn’t believe she’d actually do it, did you? Well, she did, and I have a photo to prove it.

There is a reason Rita Karp won Eco to the People’s Green Holiday contest. Her entry, while arguably not the most beautiful, was by far the most unique idea that came across my desk.

Here is her entry:

“I typically wrap all of my holiday gifts in brown kraft paper decorated with gift tags made from Christmas cards from previous years. Last year, instead of using gift boxes (recycled from previous gifts of course!) for all of my nieces and nephews, I ‘wrapped’ their gifts in cereal boxes from my cardboard recycling box. No paper necessary! The boxes are colorful and conversational. Everyone wondered “who was giving cereal for Christmas?” when they saw them stacked under the tree. This year, I’ve been saving pizza boxes from Friday night deliveries. Can’t wait to see the reaction in a few weeks!”

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest. The runners-up will be receiving a little eco treat in the near future.

this is awesome. nice work, Rita. I have to admit I was bummed my fake christmas tree suggestion didn’t make the cut. But now that I see this, I can see why.
