My heart swelled with pride the other day when lover boy came home with a new pair of sneakers. They weren’t just any old sneaker either, but a pair of vegan Simple Shoes, made from earth-friendly materials.
He got as many brownie points as if he’d brought me flowers.
The shoes are completely cruelty-free and feature organic cotton uppers and liners. The heel and toecap are made of recycled inner tubes that were saved from the dump, while the laces are made of recycled PET, made of what formerly were soda bottles. Water-based glue is used to hold the shoe together, not petroleum-based glue like in ordinary sneakers.
Even the boxes are environmentally friendly – they’re made of post-consumer recycled paper, soy-based printing ink, natural latex and starch-based glue.
My guy chose the Tuba shoe, which comes in three colors and retails for $70. Other styles, all of which are similarly constructed, are available on the company’s website.
